Donald Insall Associates is a leading conservation architecture practice with over 50 years’ experience in the care, repair and adaptation of historic buildings and places, together with the design of new buildings for sensitive sites. We pioneered an approach to conservation as a catalyst for regeneration and renewal, and continue to put it into practice at a range of scales in locations around the UK.

Our positive, proactive approach goes beyond conservation and repair; we use our expertise and deep-rooted understanding of historic buildings to guide and support new interventions that enhance and sustain successful places. This approach has made us trusted advisors and partners to a diverse range of clients, from large landowners and institutions to small charities and homeowners.

Since our beginnings in 1958, we have taken a sustainable approach to design and conservation - not least through the re-use of existing buildings. We pay particular attention to selecting locally-sourced materials that have low embodied energy, and incorporating energy-efficient technologies into existing and new buildings. More recently, we have extended this commitment to sustainable practice in the way we run our business.

Donald Insall Associates operates a Quality Assurance and Environmental Management System accredited to ISO9001 and ISO14001. We are an RIBA Chartered Practice and a member of the UK Green Building Council.
